The first 14 days of your new gym membership are critical to your success. Industry studies show that this is make or break time for new members. Most people join the gym without much of an idea on what to do, and then get frustrated and stop showing up all within the first two weeks! This has been proven time and time again by many industry studies.

At TPS we want the best for our members. The best service, the best experience, the best training and the best results. That is why we have put together this list of suggestions on how to maximize your first 14 days here, and make coming to the gym an enjoyable "habit".

Know your facility · Make sure you know and understand all the services and amenities your facility offers so you can work with the staff to create a map to success. Many members start first and find out later that the facility offers supports and guidance in areas that will help them reach their goals that much quicker. Signing up for our New Member Orientation (NMO) is the perfect way to do this, and it is included at no additional cost to you with your membership. Take advantage of the NMO when you sign up. See the front desk for details. For more information on the NMO, click here.

Have our Front Desk team introduce you to someone in the Personal Training so you have a point of contact for questions related to your goals. Now is a perfect time to discuss your Personal Training options with one of our highly skilled and experienced training staff.

· Explore the facility and acquaint yourself with all the programs and equipment available. Much of our equipment is probably things you are not familiar with. Don't worry. The NMO will guide you through the gym and familiarize you with it. A lot of our new members are a little intimidated when they first see the weight room. Relax, everyone is friendly and willing to offer help.

-Know yourself · Work with our staff to complete a comprehensive assessment of your current fitness levels including movement, general health screening and fitness history. These factors are critical in building a successful plan for reaching your goals and are included every membership. · Create a realistic schedule that is fun and empowering — many new members dive in too fast and over commit their time and energy. Build a plan that fits into your current lifestyle and increase your commitment a little at a time. Schedule your time at TPS and book it in advance.

· Take it slow if you are new to exercising. Try out a few group classes. Explore the weight room. Do not do too much too soon. Start out your first week with two or three visits to the gym and let the class instructors know that you are new to exercise. They are there to help and are happy to show you a little extra attention. We want you here and we want you to succeed. We are not like the gyms that hand out free pizza and bagels after your workout.

After your first few weeks, increase the time you spend here by adding in an extra class or a strength training session.

· Hiring a personal trainer short-term or long-term is a great way to make sure you can get the most out of your membership. A qualified trainer will save you tremendous time and focus you on your goals by creating a concise individualized plan. Working with a personal trainer also creates accountability for your time scheduled and keeps you motivated. · Utilize both the fitness and nutrition services TPS provides to maximize your efforts and achieve your goals.

TPS provides several options from specific nutritional guidance and programs to convenient supplements and snacks-use this expertise and these tools to accelerate your success. · Feel free to ask the training staff for a tip or two if they are not in the middle of a training session.

· Leverage the variety TPS offers — an example would be incorporate group exercise into your program for variation and motivation. By incorporating new activities and exploring other areas of the gym you will truly maximize your membership and your progress.

Once you are through the first 14 days, the rest is not that hard if you follow our advice. The gym will feel comfortable to you and we are sure that you will want to do more to get yourself in the shape that you want to be in! Good luck.
