This could be you if you have the desire!

Boxers are among the fittest and best athletes in the world.

Boxing requires explosive movement, practical strength, technical skill, dedication, and heart.  Only a practitioner of boxing understands the importance of the high levels of endurance, dexterity, strength, and confidence necessary to remain competitive.

To this practitioner, brain and brawn exist on even playing fields, the complexities of the sport truly overlapping into ‘science’ status, leaving arbitrary notions that ‘bigger is better’ far behind.

Our boxing program introduces some of the most technical training methods available, set at an individual pace so that everyone can learn.  Speed, power, and ring wisdom are all part of this no-frills boxing approach as taught by our head coach, Edgardo Alvarez.

Class Description

Boxing Beginner/Intermediate Class:

Our boxing classes are the result of years of experience and a genuine love of the sport.

Classes include jumping rope, shadow boxing, partner drills, and focus mitt work.  We also incorporate heavy bag work, agility exercises, footwork drills, and much more.  You will build a strong foundation in boxing fundamentals, gain practical strength, and improve hand-eye coordination; all necessary elements to a boxer on the road to success.  For the dedicated student, you will also take with you a sense of accomplishment that will stick with you for years to come.

Boxing is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7pm-8pm.  See our complete class schedule here.

Boxing Advanced/Fighter’s Class:

We offer advanced boxing training for those on a competitive track, or for those looking to take their game to a higher level. Advanced training builds on standard group participation through the use of sparring and contact drills, as well as more intensive conditioning routines.

Our advanced program has produced many fighters that have achieved success in the ring.  Students wishing to participate in advanced training must be approved by the Head Boxing Coach, have a current USA Boxing Membership and sign the TPS Sparring Waiver.

Heavy Bag Class:

Get in SHAPE and hone your skills while building speed and power in our heavy bag class. You will do specific heavy bag and conditioning drills to improve rhythm, timing and power.

Women's Only Class:

Learn all of the same skills taught in our regular boxing class, except this one is for ladies only.

Private Lessons:

Private and Semi-Private Group training are available for students by appointment only. Call 617-387-5998 for details.

Boxing FAQs

Do you have classes for beginners?

Intro classes will be held several times a week. Please refer to the schedule for days and times.

I’m not in great shape, can I still take the classes?

Yes.  All fitness levels are welcome.  Classes are designed to teach you boxing, and through your dedication to the sport, you can acquire the conditioning necessary to perform like a champion.

Are women welcome?

Women of all ages are always welcome.

What if I don’t want to spar? Can I still come?

While mild contact is to be expected, sparring is optional and must be approved by the coaching staff. Sparring will never be insisted upon, unless students are ready and willing; on the contrary, sparring is reserved for dedicated students on an intermediate or advanced level.

I want to spar, can I do that too?

As stated above, sparring must be approved by the coaching staff.  As requested, the coaching staff will work to prepare willing students who wish to participate in sparring.  All athletes wishing to spar must have their own protective equipment and sign our Sparring Waiver before participating.

Can kids participate in boxing?  Is it safe?

Kids are always welcome in boxing.  Our Youth Boxing classes are for kids ages 6-12 years old.  Our staff gears these classes towards building confidence, respect, fitness and a strong foundation in boxing fundamentals.

Youth boxing is statistically one of the safest sports for kids, rivaling even the most commonplace team sports including soccer, football, and basketball.

Youth Boxing classes are offered Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:30 pm.

What kind of equipment do you have? What will I need?

We have a full size professional ring, a wide variety of heavy bags, a speed bag, double end bags, and suitcase (upper cut) bags.  You are required to have your own 16 oz gloves, hand wraps, and a mouthpiece.  Proper boxing shoes (or wrestling shoes) are strongly encouraged.

I play sports in High School now, is boxing recommended in the off-season?

Cross training for sports is a proven way to make you a better athlete.  Boxing is an ideal complement to all sports because it augments speed, power, endurance, coordination, timing, muscle memory, and conditioning.  It also provides a safe and structured environment to excel.  Unfortunately with the advent of young adults specializing in one sport all year long, we are now seeing some of the same ‘overuse’ injuries as seen in professional athletes.  Your child can advance considerably in their chosen sport and help prevent repetitive use injuries by incorporating boxing into their regimen.

I never want to get in the ring and fight, I just want to be in the best shape of my life. Can I come?

Of course you can! Our classes are for everyone. We will help you achieve your goals no matter what they are; from fitness to fighting, TPS Boxing will get you there.
